About this Presentation:
Not all “bugs” are creepy crawlers! In fact, many insects are actually beneficial to your garden and landscape. These helpful creatures play significant roles in targeting specific pests to keep their populations in check, pollinating plants, and even serving as a food source for songbirds. Recognizing and supporting beneficial insects is a great way to promote a healthy ecosystem. In this presentation, you'll learn to identify beneficial insects with tips, tricks, and pictures galore. You'll also explore both biological and non-biological factors that contribute to natural pest control, as well as gain insight into insect biology and life stages, so you can encourage these natural allies in your very own backyard.
The presentation will be recorded for
members to view later in our Video Library.
About Our Speaker:

As an IPM Extension Associate with NC State University, Ryan connects Integrated Pest Management (IPM) efforts across NC State’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. His work is as diverse as the North Carolina landscape itself—on Mondays, you might find him supporting landscapes and horticultural crops in the Mountains; by Wednesday, he’s addressing environmental and agricultural challenges in fruit tree production in the Sandhills; and by Friday, he’s helping children plant pollinator gardens on the coast. He collaborates with Extension professionals, Extension Master Gardener volunteers, farmers, schools, youth, and community members where he encourages critical thinking and practical problem-solving in gardens, agriculture, and the environment. Or, as he puts it: anyone willing to listen!
